Cambridgeshire win Midland U18 Boys League Final at The Gog Magog Golf Club by 6.5 to 5.5
The 2024 Midland Boys League Play-off Final between the East League winners Cambridgeshire and the West League winners Staffordshire took place at the excellent Gog Magog Golf Club, which was in great condition.
The morning foursomes went the way of Cambridgeshire by three points to one point, with excellent wins for Sam Marshall and Olly Toyer, Joe Austin and Theo Morris, Ellis Kerr and Lewis Karim, with Oliver Perks and Louis Bailey-Jenkins replying for Staffordshire.
All to play for in the afternoon singles. The top match between Sam Marshall and Ronnie Groves was halved, Olly Toyer won against James Thompson by 5&4, Max Simpson reduced the deficit by beating Joe Austin by 3&2, and when Alfie Turner beat Theo Morris by 2&1 could a comeback be on? However, Rohan Neat beat Noah Fox by 3&2 to restore the two point lead with three matches to go, however, big wins for Harry Johnson over Lewis Karim by 5&3 and Oliver Perks over Ellis Kerr by 4&3 meant the team total points were level, with one match to go. Sam Arthur had a big win over Louis Bailey-Jenkins by 6&5 to get the overall win for Cambridgeshire.
An excellent day that saw some great golf, and supported by a large contingent of County Officials.
