Lincolnshire to represent the Midland Region in EG Senior County Finals

 Lincolnshire to represent the Midland Region for the second year in a row in EG Senior County Finals at Horrogate in October.

Once again Lincolnshire will represent the Midland Region in the Senior Men’s County Finals following on from their regional victory in 2024, which is added to previous appearances in the Finals in 2019 and 2013. No doubt the County will be hoping to bring the ultimate prize back to Lincolnshire in October.

With strong winds and rain on day one, on an exposed Wandlebury Course at The Gog Magog, Staffordshire held an early lead on 376 with Lincolnshire leading the chasing pack on 380 just one ahead of Leicestershire & Rutland on 381 which included an impressive 3 under 69 from Steve Sansome, by far the best score of the day. Shropshire & Herefordshire and Northamptonshire tied for 4th place on 382, and Warwickshire 6th on 385. The current format of 5 from 6 meant the competition was still wide open with most teams still in contention.

Day two commenced without the rain, but the wind was perhaps a little stronger, making the course tougher to conquer for all the teams. As second round scores were recorded the lead seemed to be changing hands between the top 3 although Worcestershire suffered a player disqualification to drop from 3rd to 4th overall despite a surge up from 7th after the first round. Staffordshire’s early promise faded to finish in 3rd place on 768. Leicestershire & Rutland almost repeated their first-round score by returning a 382 for a final total of 763. Lincolnshire finally came through, improving their first-round score by 3 to record a 377 to make a final total 757 which was 6 clear of the chasing pack.

The best individual score over the two days was Steve Sansome (Leicestershire & Rutland) with 66 & 72 (141) with Andy Billson (Northamptonshire) 73 &74 (147) and Adrian Allen (Lincolnshire) 75 & 73 (148)
